Training Courses in Environment-Related Issues (expired)

TWAS and Forgea International collaborate in the organization of training courses on various aspects of environment-related issues.

To date, courses have been held on "Geo-mining and Coastal Zone Management", "Recovery and Recycling of Construction Materials" and "Bioremediation and Phytoremediation Techniques for the Reclamation of Mine Sites".

Courses, which are held on the island of Sardinia, Italy, are open to a limited number of participants from south Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Balkan countries and are aimed at university researchers, professors and graduate students, decision makers, mid-career technologists as well as professionals from public authorities and companies involved in the management of environmental problems related to mine site rehabilitation, reclamation and/or closure.

In the 2006-2007 series of four courses, 97 participants from 15 countries attended: Albania (2), Algeria (8), Bosnia (4), Bulgaria (9), Egypt (13), Jordan (1), Lebanon (2), Morocco (14), Oman (1), Romania (1), Serbia (2), Sudan (1), Syria (6), Tunisia (16), Turkey (17).

The 2008-2009 series of courses include:

  • Capacity Building in Environmental Related Issues in the Field of Geo-mining: Materials recovery and recycling. Dates: 1-12 December 2008.
  • Capacity Building in Environmental Related Issues in the Field of Geo-mining: Bioremediation and phytoremediation techniques for the reclamation of mine sites. Dates: 2-14 March 2009.
  • Capacity Building in Environmental Related Issues in the Field of Geo-mining: Remote sensing and other environment-related Issues. Dates: 17-30 May 2009.
