Euro-Africa Cooperation Forums on ICT Research

As a member of the European Union-funded EuroAfrica-ICT.org consortium, TWAS is involved in organizing a series of meetings, including two major conferences, the 3rd and 4th Euro-Africa Cooperation Forums on ICT Research.

TWAS is one of seven institutions involved in the EuroAfrica-ICT.org project, sponsored by the European Commission DG-INFSO under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), an extension to the 2008-2010 EuroAfriCa-ICT project.

During the EuroAfriCa-ICT project, TWAS and its consortium partners implemented the 1st and 2nd editions of the Euro-Africa Cooperation Forums on ICT Research, in Brussels, Belgium, and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in March 2009 and February 2010, respectively. These meetings are held under the aegis of the European Commission and the African Union Commission. For more details on these meetings, see here.

During the current two-year project, TWAS and its consortium partners will organize two further Euro-Africa Cooperation Forums on ICT Research. The first of these will be held on 7-10 December in Helsinki, Finland, in collaboration with the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. It will also be co-located with the eI (e-Infrastructures)-Africa conference.

The Fourth Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research was held in Cape Town, South Africa, on 14-15 November 2011. For additional information, see here.

The EuroAfrica-ICT project has also developed a database of centres of excellence in ICT research in Africa as a resource for other researchers looking for potential partners for their collaborative projects. View the database.
