Nominations for 2012 TWAS Prizes sought
Each of the eight prizes carries a monetary award of US$ 15,000. Deadline for receiving nominations is 29 February 2012.
The TWAS Prizes are awarded annually to individual scientists in eight fields of science: agricultural sciences, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering sciences, mathematics, medical sciences and physics.
Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Their scientific research achievement is of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
- Their research has contributed substantially to the application of S&T to industry or to human well-being in a developing country.
Each prize will carry a monetary award of US$ 15,000 and a plaque bearing a citation highlighting the major contribution for which the prize is awarded. The deadline for receiving nominations is 29 February 2012.

Excellence in Science: Profiles of Research
Institutions in Developing Countries is a series of booklets published
by TWAS highlighting successful scientific institutions in the South. Ten institutions have so far been profiled: INBio (Costa Rica), CBS (Tunisia), IMRA (Madagascar), CDRI (India), IMPLAD (China), IHI (Tanzania), SAIAB (South Africa), NARL (Uganda), ORI (Botswana) and IMS (Zanzibar, Tanzania).
