New TWAS-DFG agreement
12 November 2012. TWAS and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) have signed an agreement that will provide up to 30 'cooperation visits' by postdoctoral scientists from sub-Saharan Africa each year.

The visits may last up to three months and can be taken at any one of several hundred participating university laboratories and research institutes in Germany.
The new agreement builds on a partnership that began with the award of 10 such Cooperation Visits in 2010. For 2011 and 2012, the number of visits increased to 20.
"We are very pleased to be strengthening this cooperation between TWAS and DFG," said Romain Murenzi, TWAS executive director. "Its importance lies in the fact that, to date, it is the only TWAS programme that allows scientists from developing countries to gain valuable experience from top-class laboratories in the North."
"The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft is pleased to cooperate with TWAS in the endeavour to increase its international cooperation with sub-Saharan Africa and notably young African researchers," added DFG president, Matthias Kleiner.
The call for applications to the programme will open in January 2013.
