CATALYST - for hazard risk reduction and adaptation

CATALYST - a project funded by the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is focused on 'Capacity Development for Hazard Risk Reduction and Adaptation'.

The project, which runs for two years (October 2011 - September 2013) aims to bring together key stakeholders in the area of natural climatic hazards such as cyclones, droughts, heatwaves and floods, as well as tectonic hazards, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides. Through a series of think-tank processes, best practices from four regions (European/Mediterranean, Central America and Caribbean, West and East Africa, and South and South-East Asia) will be identified along with any gaps in disaster preparedness and/or response knowledge or practices.

Syntheses of these 'best practices' will be prepared for the wider stakeholder audience as well as for policy-makers - with the ultimate aim of building the capacity of all target countries in their ability to reduce the risks imposed by natural hazards and adapt to cope with their most devastating effects.
