Conference on climate change and food security in Africa
The conference 'Climate Change and Food Security: The Road for Africa', which will take place from 10 to 12 November 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya, is jointly organized by the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) and the TWAS Regional Office for Sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-ROSSA).

The conference intends to bring together some of the very best climate
change scientists to exchange ideas and experiences on climate change
impacts and adaptation measures in relation to food security in Africa.

Keynote speakers
- Peter Anyang Nyong’o, Minister for Medical Services, Government of Kenya, will be
addressing implementation strategies for the conference recommendations.
- Rhoda Tumusime, African Union Commissioner for Food Security, Addis Ababa, will examine issues of agriculture and biodiversity in relation to climate change.
- Judy Omumbo, International Research Institute for Climate and Society, New York, will look at health matters in relation to climate change.
- Yongxin Xu, Senior Professor of Hydrogeology, University of the Western Cape, and UNESCO Chair in Hydrogeology, will focus on water matters in relation to climate change.
Conference participants will have the opportunity to visit the facilities of AAS and ICIPE. During the conference, AAS will inaugurate its new headquarters in Karen, Nairobi.

Excellence in Science: Profiles of Research
Institutions in Developing Countries is a series of booklets published
by TWAS highlighting successful scientific institutions in the South. Ten institutions have so far been profiled: INBio (Costa Rica), CBS (Tunisia), IMRA (Madagascar), CDRI (India), IMPLAD (China), IHI (Tanzania), SAIAB (South Africa), NARL (Uganda), ORI (Botswana) and IMS (Zanzibar, Tanzania). The volumes are also available for download as PDF files.
